| Strengths: |
Works well, referring to earlier review, mine did not have a plastic cup, it was metal.
Smooth with no noise, reliable bearings seem well sealed, cheap to replace when needed.

| Weaknesses: |
I think I saw claimed weight 240g but I weighed it at 291g for 107mm 68mm shell. |

The choice used to be between XT level UN72 which was seemed the right side of light as far as I was concerned, and deore level UN52, which seemed just the wrong side of light though there wasn't much in it. After fitting expensive light-weight square taper BB's to my old Giant TCR aluminium racer and finding the bearings went rough and noisy very quickly (TA Axis in particular), I wanted a UN72 for reliability. Only problem - you can't get them any more. However it seems they now do this UN54 as a single catch-all for anywone wanting to keep their old square taper chainsets in use, it seems to be between the old UN52 and UN72 in terms of design quality and weight. I fitted it in August and it ran smooth and silent during my two week tour of switzerland so good job. |
